"Shockley Foundation" was establesed by writer/director/actor Edgar J. Shockley III. It was made in honor of Edgar J. Shockley Jr and Alice L. Shockley-Godwin. (Edgar Joseph Shockley Jr. was the first Black Master Plumber in New Jersey, Massacusett and co-founder for the Contractors Association of Boston to assist the achievement of others life's dream. Alice L. Shockley-Godwin left as a "colored girl " in Virginia to become the first of her family to graduate higher education with thirty-plus years as a registed nurse and superviser at Philadelphia General Hosital.)
"In my long arts career I have witnessed the crushing weight of poverty upon
many artists. Ability and stability are often unrelated. My hope has been to
create a vehicle to maximize opportuties for substantive impart the lives of
my peers this foundation modeled after the 'Key Fellow Program" of Corka,
Ireland with ultimately leave an indelible mark upon the face of contemporary art."

How: Each year "Shockley Foundation" begins with a book. It then does singers with new songs, a play, a radio-play and finally either dance, television or film work. The idea is to get the actors, techs, teachers and directors better jobs plus do something important for "the world. " ("Shockley Foundation" will continue for each part as long as it has enough for that original year's grant. Each year it will begins again.)
